Activity #4 "Six Little Ducks"
Description of Assignment
In this activity students first learned the rhythm to the song in the activity before. They had no idea that this rhythm would apply to the next song, "Six Little Ducks". I demonstrated the song for the students and then ask them to listen carefully. Then I ask them questions about what they heard, for example, "How many ducks were there?", "What were the different kinds of ducks?" After the questions I taught the song to the children line by line and then add different verses and movements to the song. This fulfills the criteria for Accomplished Practice #7 by:
- Selects developmentally appropriate material and activities
- Uses a variety of activities to motivate students
- Seeks to develop both musical skills and useful information about music
Artistic Processes/Medium
Performing: Singing and Rhythms
Responding: Listening, Discussing
Rationale
I chose this illustration because it contains a lot of variety throughout the lesson. Starting with the rhythm, then the critical thinking questions, and then the singing and movement. It is also appropriate material for the second graders and I hoped to develop both musical skills and useful information about the music for them.Illustration
