Activity #2- "Hey, Hey Look at me"
Description of Assignment
The second activity in the lesson plan was to teach the kindergartners the “Hey, Hey” game. Once students understood the initial concept after repeated demonstrations by teachers, they were then asked to participate. First, by showing the steady beat by keeping a pulse, which consisted of patting their laps and then clapping their hands together, and then by individually singing their name on sol-mi as their turn came around the circle. The teacher is able to observe which students can maintain a steady beat and as their turn comes in the circle, who can sing on the appropriate pitches in rhythm. The assessment techniques used in the lesson plan meets the Accomplished Practice #1 in the following ways:
Uses assessment techniques appropriate to the grade level and students
Assesses learning in a positive, non-threatening manner
Employs a variety of assessment techniques
Artistic Processes/Medium
Performing: Singing
Creating: Improvisation
Responding: Listening for assessmentRationale
This was a great assessment tool because I was able to see and hear each student individually as their turn came around the circle. This gave me the opportunity to assess each students abilities of singing on accurate pitch as well as the correct rhythm while maintaining the steady beat. This assessment technique was done in a non-threatening atmosphere and there was a lot of positive reinforcement to encourage the students as their turn came in the circle. This activity demonstrates the Accomplished Practice of Assessment accurately because there were several methods used, but all being age-appropriate for the grade level.
