Lesson Plan for Second Grade
Description of Assignment
This lesson was taught to all the second grade classes. It focused on learning about tempo and being able to identify different tempos; fast, moderate, and slow. This lesson included rhythm reading, movement, critical thinking questions, singing, keeping a steady beat using their bodies and instruments, identifying different tempos, and being able to keep a steady beat during varying tempos. This fulfills the criteria for Accomplished Practice #7 by:
- Selects developmentally appropriate material and activities
- Uses a variety of activities to motivate students
- Seeks to develop both musical skills and useful information about music
Artistic Processes/Medium
Performing: Singing and Rhythms
Responding: Listening, Discussing
Rationale
I chose this illustration because it contains a lot of variety throughout the lesson. I got most of the songs and activities from the second grade Music Connections book, making the material developmentally appropriate. I hoped to develop both musical skills and useful information about the music for them in this lesson on tempo.Illustration
