Correct Singing Posture
Description of Assignment
Before I even had the students I gave them a lesson on correct singing posture in order to produce a well supported sound. I gave them a verbal description as well as a physical model to teach the students things such as feet shoulder width apart, knees slightly bent, etc.. I then asked the students to show me this correct singing posture throughout the lesson and corrected them if they began to slouch. This assignment demonstrates the following criteria for Accomplished Practice #8:
- Presents all subject matter accurately and musically
- Detects errors in performing music accurately and consistently
- Is able to present subject in a manner meaningful to the students
Artistic Processes/Medium
Responding - listening, student listens as proper example is given, understanding physical representation
Rationale
This illustration clearly shows that I needed prior knowledge in order to teach this student the proper techniques of correct singing posture. It also shows that I am able to identify problems they were experiencing and help correct them.
