Lesson #1 of "Come to my Garden"
Description of Assignment
In this lesson I was rehearsing the piece "Come to my Garden" and in this lesson I was focusing on singing posture, correct pitches, and diction. I addressed correct posture at the beginning of the lesson and reminded them periodically throughout the lesson if they began to slouch. Throughout the piece I would remind them about the diction and the crisp consonants I had asked for in a previous lesson if I did not hear them. Each time they would finish a section of the piece, I would have the students self-assess themselves and ask them what they did well and what they needed to improve on. As they corrected problems and sang through the section again, I would listen and compare this run through to the one before. These assessment techniques used in the lesson plan meets the Accomplished Practice #1 in the following ways:
Uses assessment techniques appropriate to the grade level and students
Assesses learning in a positive, non-threatening manner
Employs a variety of assessment techniques
Involves students in self-assessment activities at appropriate intervals
Artistic Processes/Medium
Performing: Singing
Responding: Listening for assessment
Rationale
This lesson was a great example of the assessment used throughout all my lessons. It shows that there were a variety of assessment techniques used throughout the lesson and all were positive and non-threatening. Not only did I use assessment, I had the students self-assess in appropriate intervals.
